Engineering
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive engineering, manufacturing improvement and quality assurance initiatives within an automotive manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will lead engineering projects, improve manufacturing processes and equipment performance, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with quality, safety and customer requirements. The role will also involve working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Toolroom, Supply Chain and Finance teams.
Qualifications and role requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (BEng/BSc/BTech) in Mechanical Engineering.
- 8–10 years' engineering experience within the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of automotive quality standards and customer requirements.
- Experience with manufacturing process optimisation and continuous improvement.
- Experience with production equipment, automation systems and mechanical design.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 requirements.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA and Control Plans.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and structured root-cause analysis.
- Strong project management and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
- Good understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership and analytical skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead and manage engineering projects from concept through implementation.
- Develop engineering strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Provide technical leadership across manufacturing operations.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and technicians.
- Review engineering designs, specifications and technical documentation.
- Provide expert engineering support during complex operational challenges.
Manufacturing Process Improvement
- Analyse manufacturing processes and identify improvement opportunities.
- Design and implement process improvements to increase productivity.
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Drive cycle-time reduction initiatives.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency while maintaining product quality.
Project Management
- Manage capital expenditure projects.
- Prepare project budgets and business cases.
- Coordinate equipment procurement and installation.
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and agreed timelines.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Monitor project risks and implement mitigation plans.
Equipment & Maintenance Support
- Develop equipment specifications for new machinery.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of production equipment.
- Investigate recurring equipment failures.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Support preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
- Improve machine reliability and lifecycle performance.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Drive Kaizen activities.
- Conduct root-cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Eliminate waste across manufacturing processes.
- Improve productivity and cost efficiency.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure engineering processes comply with IATF 16949 requirements.
- Support customer and certification audits.
- Lead engineering investigations into customer complaints.
- Implement corrective actions for quality concerns.
- Assist with APQP, PPAP, FMEA and Control Plan development.
- Ensure compliance with customer engineering specifications.
Health, Safety & Environmental
- Ensure engineering activities comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Conduct engineering risk assessments.
- Ensure machinery complies with applicable safety regulations.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Promote a culture of safe working practices.
Cost Management & Collaboration
- Identify engineering cost-reduction opportunities.
- Improve energy efficiency within manufacturing operations.
- Reduce maintenance costs through engineering improvements.
- Optimise equipment utilisation and evaluate project ROI.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Toolroom, Supply Chain and Finance.
- Support new product introductions.
- Participate in customer and supplier technical meetings.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and external engineering consultants.
- Support cross-functional problem-solving activities.
